Greg Holloway grew up in Northern Virginia during the 1960s, an era when U.S. rare coins were remarkably affordable. He began collecting at age seven and was soon buying and selling coins alongside adult collectors. By 13, Greg had turned professional, launching a storied career that would establish him as one of the foremost experts in rare coins worldwide. Even before graduating high school, he had bought and resold many of the world’s most famous numismatic rarities.

By the age of 15, Greg had learned the single most important principle that would define his career: only buy the best. Over the decades, this philosophy has proven consistently true—investing in the finest-quality coins has always rewarded collectors in the long run.

In 1987, Greg became one of the original graders and shareholders of Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), now the world’s largest third-party certification service for grading and authenticating rare coins. That same year, he co-founded the American Numismatic Exchange, the world’s first electronic trading platform for rare coins. These innovations revolutionized the industry, transforming rare coin collecting into a multi-billion-dollar global market.

Greg has also set multiple world records. In 1990, he orchestrated the first-ever sale of a rare coin for over $1 million. Later, he made history again by selling the first English coin to break the $1 million mark.

Despite growing up in the U.S., where the numismatic market often operates as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist, Greg developed a deep interest in European rare coins. While attending over 50 coin shows a year as a teenager, he rarely encountered exceptional non-U.S. coins. Determined to change that, he began searching for treasures across Europe, ultimately attending over 1,300 coin shows worldwide—many of them in Europe—before eventually moving there part-time.

A passionate advocate for numismatic education, Greg has conducted hundreds of seminars and webinars on finance, asset protection, and the history of rare coins. He is also an accomplished author, having written the first-ever encyclopedia reference book on one of the world’s largest regularly issued gold coins: The King of Coins  5 Guineas and 5 Pounds.

Greg’s philosophy remains simple: the best always outperforms the average. When purchasing coins for clients, he follows one unwavering rule—if he wouldn’t want to own it himself, he won’t buy it. His relentless pursuit of the ultimate finest-known ultra-rarities is fueled by an unquenchable passion for numismatics and an unwavering commitment to quality.
